Amid rumours that he is quitting football, former Golden Arrows goalkeeper, Siyabonga Mngoma, refuses to be drawn on the issue.
The young keeper recently parted ways with the Durban side, having lost his place to Ryan Harrison, who joined the club last month. The player asked to be dropped from the starting line-up following a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic in early December.
According to Siya sources, Mngoma has revealed his intention to retire and is currently working at the Durban Municipality. One Arrows player, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he had heard about Mngoma’s decision and that “it is shocking”.
However, when contacted for comment, Mngoma said, “Ha, ha, ha, no, I can’t comment! Really, I can’t say anything on that. There’s nothing I know about that. A journalist from a Durban newspaper wrote that I’ve retired and maybe you can phone her and ask her because she seems to know about this. But it’s best to call Prosport International because they are the ones who represent me.”
Prosport International could not be reached for comment at the time of writing, but the crew is keeping a close eye on the situation.
