Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has admitted that Orlando Pirates struggled to break down Bidvest Wits' defence last night.
The Buccaneers suffered their first Absa Premiership loss of the season against The Students in last night’s match at Orlando Stadium, losing 1-0.
Following the team’s disappointing loss and elimination from the MTN8 against SuperSport United on the weekend, Sredojevic and his team were looking for a turnaround with a victory against Wits.
“After Saturday’s disappointment, we have regrouped and we have recovered the team. We have prepared ourselves very well. We entered the game with an intention to have patient (a) build-up knowing that the opponent will come with a defensive approach. We were looking for situations to bring us in (a) position that we try against (counter) that strategy, to be patient and to create knowing that the system of the opponent is directed towards limiting (our) the chances. In that regard, we have tried our best in order to penetrate and in order to dominate effectively,” Sredojevic told the media after the match.
“However, resolute defending of the opponent did not allow us to be fully effective. We had the chance of Shonga in the first half and the chance of Pule. In the second half, we could have wrapped up the match. On the other side the opponent has defended and waited for the counter-attack,” added the Serbian coach.
Bucs’ next match will be away, against the in-form Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium on Sunday.
