Maritzburg United take on Mpumalanga Black Aces in an Absa Premiership encounter this evening in Pietermaritzburg.
United haven’t enjoyed the best start to the campaign, however injuries to key players haven’t exactly helped the team’s cause.
The club are without the services of the influential Nhlanhla Vilakazi and Delron Buckley, as the pair are still recovering from their respective knocks.
Nonetheless, despite the injury setbacks, Ernst Middendorp’s charges have still been able to pick up a decent four points from a possible 12. Black Aces have also picked up four points from their first four matches.
The Siya crew put in a call to Middendorp, who outlined his plans for tonight’s game against Black Aces.
He said, “We feel the heat. We’re not playing aggressively enough and we’re not penetrating. Here and there it looks nice with the ball possession, but we have to put more drive into our forward movement."
Middendorp added, "We have to go in tonight with an aggressive mentality. We need to enter more into the final third, that’s what I’ve said. That’s about ball possession and better movement upfront."
He concluded, "We need to force their central defenders into dribbles and errors. We have to put more effort into the challenges we make in central midfield as well.”
The action gets underway from 19h30 at Harry Gwala Stadium.
