English Coach Confirms SA Interest Amid Chiefs Rumours
Former English Premier League coach, Mick McCarthy, has confirmed that he’s had an offer from South Africa, amid rumours of him being in the running for the job at Kaizer Chiefs.
The 59-year-old from South Yorkshire is currently on the hunt for the next challenge in his coaching career, after having left Ipswich Town recently, and KickOff.com have linked him with the vacant position at Naturena.
Chiefs are looking to bring in a replacement for Steve Komphela following his resignation last month, with numerous names having already been linked with the Glamour Boys as they try to bring back the glory days.
While he didn’t mention any names, the former Manchester City player did indeed confirm that he had contact from South Africa but suggested that it was too far from home for him to really consider it.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, he said, "From Australia, I had a call, from South Africa, Israel, all nice and local for me. (Laughs).
“They all kind of appeal to me, to get back into work, but no, it's a bit far. I would love to get back in the Premier League at some stage."
Chiefs will be keen to tie up their coaching situation before their pre-season begins, with Patrick Mabedi still looking after things in the meantime.
