Micho: We Took A Big Risk And It Worked

Micho: We Took A Big Risk And It Worked

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 21, 2018 11:45 AM
Orlando Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic was delighted that their plan to throw caution to the wind paid dividends in the end against Polokwane City on Saturday evening.

The Buccaneers came from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw with Lyle Foster sparing their blushes following his introduction midway in the second half.

“We started the way we planned with a patient build-up to create chances which we didn’t covert. Then we had a situation where we conceded five to six corners, fell asleep and conceded a goal.

“The opposition then looked to slow the game down with possession and counterattacks, but we kept out cool and created chances which we again didn’t convert.

“We changed the system at half time and took a risk by going with three defenders, changing lots of players and bringing in (Ayanda) Nkosi, Foster and (Thembinkosi) Lorch. We practically played with three defenders, two midfielders and five attackers and it paid off,” he said post-match.

The Serb believes the 3-1 win victory over the league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns had a psychological effect coming into the game, where they assumed the game would already be won.

“Every time after you’ve played a big match, you’re using a tank of emotion, thinking the next match will be won by itself. It wasn’t the case because this team (Polokwane) beat Sundowns twice and is very competitive in the league.

With Platinum Stars up next in the North West province, the former Uganda mentor has backed his charges to pick up the pieces and bounce back.

“We’ve paid that price. I believe we were a bit complacent and we need to go and work a bit harder and dig deeper in order to win. If we had enter the box more, we could’ve scored one, two or three more goals.

“We need to pick up the pieces. The game has finished the way it has. We need to be self-critical and see what’s gone wrong to come back much stronger against Platinum Stars,” he said.

If bloggers like m'ayanga read the Coach 'statement, can they understand why I say Orlando flops have reason to celebrate their draw against Polokwane City.

Good game yesterday the only mistake we made was conceding first and Moleko and his players started defending but chiefs helicopter football could have helped us Plk City are not good with arial balls, you could see all they wanted was to defend lead from the minute they scored even RamaG was playing as wingback yesterday after the goal and Memela is costing the team by being selfish hemakes unnecessary Solo runs and shots when he is suppose to pass other players who are in better position and the Constable Shonga is coming ok.

They need to push themselves harder to convert chances and do not concede in every match.
