D'Avray last worked for Chippa United in the Absa Premiership, but he is probably most well known for his work with Cape Town Spurs and as part of the South African U23 team in the past.
Ajax director Ari Efstathiou said on the club's official website: "We have had ongoing discussions with Mich to return to Cape Town for the past 18 months, and are very pleased to announce our latest acquisition. The technical team now at the club has a huge wealth of experience, including South African, Dutch, English and Serbian influence, as players, coaches and managers.
"We have brought together a technical team that has the ability to produce short- and long-term results at Ajax Cape Town."
Meanwhile, speaking from Australia, D'Avray said, "I am delighted to be coming 'home' to Cape Town. I have been impressed with the vision of the club and I'm looking forward to joining the team at the start of pre-season training."
