Orlando Pirates shot-stopper Brighton Mhlongo is likely to be handed his PSL debut tonight, with Moeneeb Josephs looking to have dropped further down the pecking order.
Senzo Meyiwa, who has been in fine form for the Buccaneers this season, will be on the bench against Black Leopards tonight in order to give the 22-year-old some vital PSL experience, while Josephs will remain out of the squad completely.
The young goalkeeper told orlandopiratesfc.com, “I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to play tonight.” His only contribution in the first team to date was receiving a yellow card from the bench in the goalless draw with rivals Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year.
He added, “We need maximum points and I hope to play a key role in ensuring that happens. I have been at the club all my life and I have always dreamed to don the first team jersey – now the opportunity has presented itself.
“I would like to call on all the supporters to come in their numbers to rally behind the team. We won’t be taking this game easily, three points is our target and nothing less.”
Mhlongo came through the youth ranks at Pirates and will no doubt be excited to get his first taste of PSL action.
