Senzo Meyiwa, who was nominated for the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award, believes that Itumeleng Khune was the deserved recipient of the award.
The Orlando Pirates shot-stopper was nominated alongside Kaizer Chiefs’ Khune and Ronwen Williams of SuperSport United, after a solid display between the sticks for coach Roger de Sa.
Meyiwa explained that although he would have been delighted to receive the prize, he is confident that the right man won the award.
On the back of Chiefs’ league and cup winning season, Khune walked away with a total of four personal awards, including the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Footballer of the Year, the Players' Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament awards, at the annual PSL end of season awards ceremony.
“I personally, just like any other player, I could have loved to win an award but I think the best player won the award. Khune has done very well and he deserves the awards that he has won.
“We have to support him as we are also teammates in the national team. I congratulate Itu (Khune) for winning these awards,” Meyiwa expressed.
