Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Method Mwanjali, has reportedly appeared in court but remained in custody for the alleged stabbing incident.
Mwanjali and his CAPS United teammate, Archford Gutu, were allegedly involved in a brawl that resulted in a man being stabbed twice in the lower abdomen in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Reports emerging from Zimbabwe indicate that Mwanjali was remanded in custody pending bail, after appearing at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to the NewsDay, the defender is facing charges of attempted murder. The NewsDay has reported that Gutu was freed on $100 bail.
“The court has to decide upon the facts given to it. The court cannot make a decision before it hears both sides’ arguments. However, Mwanjali is facing a known criminal offence and, therefore, is remanded to tomorrow (today) for bail hearing.
“Gutu is hereby released on $100 bail since the charge he is facing is not very serious,” Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe has been quoted as having said.
Tonderai Nhunzvi, the man who was allegedly stabbed two times by Mwanjali, is said to be in a stable condition after he reportedly underwent surgery at the Parirenyatwa Hospital.
