Platinum Stars have had a good start to their 2013/14 campaign so far, winning the MTN8 and losing just once in the PSL, and this is largely due to the performance of their captain, Vuyo Mere.
Mere has featured in every single one of Dikwena’s games so far this season, lifting the MTN8 trophy for them after their triumph over Orlando Pirates late last month.
So great was Mere’s impact perceived to be that the Siya crew looked at the Soccer-Laduma stats to see exactly how well he has been doing.
The first thing that stuck out was the fact that, on average, Mere makes more passes than any other member of his team (49.25 per game) and at 85.53%, he also has the highest pass success rate.
Besides that, Mere also makes, on average, four tackles and two blocks per game, once again the highest in his team.
Another impressive stat regarding the defender is that he’s creating chances for his teammates and giving them options. He puts in around 4 crosses per game and receives the ball over 43 times, also the best figures at the club.
Meanwhile, the Stars skipper is also in the top five at his club when it comes to interceptions and clearances, proving what an integral role he is playing in Allan Freese’s side.
Mere, formerly of Mamelodi Sundowns, will no doubt be ecstatic with his recent form, as will Freese, and he will be hoping that his early season performances can continue throughout the season.
Have you noticed Mere’s fine form?
