Wits coach, Clive Barker, has handed Thando Mdluli a trial with the Braamfontein-based club. The former Bafana Bafana mentor is looking to reinforce his defence during the January transfer window, before the league resumes in February.
Mdluli is currently a free agent, having parted ways with NFD outfit FC Cape Town. The former Orlando Pirates player is now hoping to make his return to the PSL after spending last season with various clubs in South Africa’s second tier of football.
The 27-year-old was previously on The Students’ books. He was developed within the club’s junior ranks and went on to play for the senior team after turning out for a few other clubs, including the likes of Jomo Cosmos.
The player’s presence at The Students was confirmed to the Siya crew by the club’s general manager, George Mogotsi.
“He has arrived and started training with the club for Clive to see him. Clive will make a final decision,” said Mogotsi.
Wits are on the brink of losing Mbulelo Mabizela from their defensive department, with Mdluli earmarked to add depth to the squad.
