Legendary former Kaizer Chiefs hitman, Shane McGregor, believes the club's recent slump in form has all but ended their hopes of defending the PSL title.
The Glamour Boys have recorded back-to-back defeats in the PSL against Mamelodi Sundowns and Black Aces, and now trail league leaders, Downs, by three points. One possible plus point for the Amakhosi is that they do have a game-in-hand, however at this stage the Brazilians enjoy a slightly better goal difference.
Nonetheless, McGregor, who scored close to 200 goals during his professional career, believes that Chiefs' recent slump will prove costly in their attempts to win a second league title in a row.
He told the Siya crew, "Pressure's a funny thing. It's a question of whether you can deal with it or not. These lads at Chiefs can't. It seems as soon as you put them under pressure, they fold. I don't know. I might be wrong here - but there seems to be a little bit of dissatisfaction within the camp about the way they're playing. I'm just looking at it from the point of view of how the player's are playing. They don't look too happy. Look, I think Sundowns are going to win the title just because they've got the momentum. They're coming right, playing well and getting results. They're also getting those results where they shouldn't be. Whereas, Chiefs it's the opposite and nothing's happening for them. That's why I think Chiefs have given it away."
Amakhosi will no doubt look to get back to form when they take on SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday. The action gets underway from 15h00 at the FNB Stadium.
