Vasco da Gama have made their first signing of the 2014/15 season under their new owner by clinching a deal with Mbulelo Wambi.
It was revealed by the Siya crew on Wednesday that the Cape Town-based NFD side brought in Mario Ferreira as the club’s new owner.
The club moved quickly by signing Wambi to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season to increase the team’s chances of competing for PSL promotion.
Wambi’s agent Abbie Rasimphi of Liberate Resources Sport Management confirmed to the Siya crew that the 27-year-old has been signed on a two-year deal.
“Strydom Wambi has moved from United FC to Vasco da Gama. Milano United were also interested in the player. Vasco came running for him. The player has flown to Cape Town already. The deal is for two seasons. This boy is quality. He is going to offer Vasco good service. They won’t regret signing him. He is a good midfielder that is holding and attacking. He scored nine goals for United FC last season,” said Rasimphi.
Wambi scored eight league goals for United last season. One of his goals was against Vasco when United beat them 2-1 at Parow Park in March.
