Following Mbongeni Mzimela’s heroics which helped Bizana Pondo Chiefs secure promotion to Mzansi’s second tier league, it has been revealed how the experienced goalkeeper surfaced in the third tier earlier this year.
Prior to his arrival at Chiefs for their ABC Motsepe League campaign, Mzimela had a stint with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the GladAfrica Championship, having joined the club from Chippa United.

Due to a contractual dispute with TTM, the former AmaZulu goalkeeper left the club, and Bizana Pondo Chiefs coach Tshepo Motsoeneng has explained how he lured the 35-year-old to the Eastern Cape outfit.

“I brought Mzimela after he left TTM, I knew that I needed someone I can trust at the back and someone I can relate to. Remember Mzimela came to AmaZulu and he was understudy under me, so I knew Mzimela very well and I knew that he was kicked out. I said to him, ‘For you son to go back to the PSL you need to start afresh and come to this league for the play-offs because we know how to get into the play-offs.’ It’s not about cheating because as a coach you plan and if you cheat you are not going to get it and I’m not saying that the guys that didn’t make it cheated. Prepare properly and you need a leader in your club,” said Motsoeneng, speaking to the media.
