Collins Mbesuma has been included in Zambia’s national team squad to face Brazil on October 15 but the striker remains a doubt for Orlando Pirates’ Telkom Knockout clash against Mpumalanga Black Aces and the return leg of their CAF Champions League semi-finals, when they face Esperance on October 19.
Bucs face Esperance this Saturday in a crucial CAF semi-final match which could set them up for a monumental away match on October 19, in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
According to a high ranking official within the Bucs camp, Mbesuma will only be considered for selection into a match-day squad as of next week.
The source told Soccer-Laduma, “Collins has recovered very well but we cannot take any chances by rushing him back. He will keep working hard this week, then next week the technical team will look at including him.”
Mbesuma would be keen to be part of Bucs’ Telkom Knockout clash against Mpumalanga Black Aces on Tuesday, October 8.
Pirates were initially due to face Aces in what was to be the start of their Telkom Knockout campaign on October 2 but the match was rescheduled to allow Bucs to honour their CAF Champions League commitment.
“He could well play a part in the Telkom Knockout match but it will be a last minute decision closer to the match. We are happy that he has been chosen for his national team, that will give him extra game-time before he plays for the club again,” added the source.
