Bafana Bafana defender, Thabo Matlaba, says he is looking forward to testing his strength against some of the best players in the world when Bafana take on Spain on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the Siya crew ahead of the friendly against world champions, Matlaba said he had recovered from the injury he suffered during Bafana’s 3-0 win over Swaziland this past weekend and was looking forward to playing against the likes of Iniesta and Iker Casillas.
“When I was playing for Free State Stars, I used to look forward to playing against big teams like Chiefs and Pirates and now that I’m playing for the national team, I’m looking forward to playing against the likes of Spain,” said Matlaba.
“As you know, Spain have some of the best players in the world like Iniesta, Xabi and Casillas and one doesn’t need motivation going into this game, because playing against these giants of world football is a motivation on its own. I’m looking forward to playing against them on Tuesday night,” added Matlaba.
The Orlando Pirates wingback said he would love to score a goal against Casillas.
“Every player wants to score against Iker and I’m one of those players who would love to score against arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. If I do get the chance to shoot then I’ll try my luck, who knows I might score. But even if I don’t score I’ll be happy if we can beat Spain,” concluded Matlaba.
Bafana will take on Spain in a friendly international at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night at 21h00.
