1 Win In 4: Chiefs To Re-Establish Dominance Over Chippa?
Match Preview - Chippa United v Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs haven’t had the best run of form against Chippa United in recent history but will be hoping to get the best of Dan Malesela’s side in today’s Premier’s Cup encounter to boost their confidence ahead of the upcoming PSL season.
The Chilli Boys have emerged victorious twice in their last four league encounters, including a devastating 3-1 win in December last year, courtesy of a Lerato Manzini brace and Tshwarelo Bereng’s header, and their only loss since the end of Chiefs’ league winning season in 2014/15 came on matchday 24 last season, where they lost 1-0, with George Lebese finding the net in the 85th minute.
However, with Chippa having finished in 13th place last season, Chiefs will be hoping that they can return to the state of historical dominance over their opponents. Overall, Amakhosi have played eight matches against the Port Elizabeth-based club, winning five and losing just two, with another ending in a goalless draw.
To do so, Chiefs will need to keep Lerato Manzini at bay, with the 26-year-old being his club’s top scorer in this particular encounter. It’s is also an opportunity for Steve Komphela to take a look at one of his reported transfer targets, Bereng, with the attacking midfielder having caught his attention and the club believed to be locked in negotiations to secure his signature.
Komphela will, however, be concerned about his record against Chippa, with a win ratio of just 50% against today’s opponents.
