National First Division Play-offs
Full Time: MP Black Aces 1-0 Chippa United
Date: 01 June 2013
Venue: Themba Senamela Stadium
A goal two minutes from time from Dennis Masina, and after only being on the field for a few seconds, saw MP Black Aces walk away 1-0 winners over Chippa United in a National First division play-off match at the Themba Senamela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The loss was Mark Harrison’s first as the Chippa coach since taking over.
It was certainly not the most entertaining opening 45 minutes as chances on goal were few and far between as the first half finished 0-0.
Neither side was too enterprising in attack and decision making in the final third was extremely poor with both teams unable to fashion any decent chances on goal.
Aces did have an opening in the second minute of the match as a long ball from the back saw Tshidiso Mosikidi break behind the Chippa defence, but he fired his shot over the crossbar from 16-yards out with just the keeper to beat.
Chippa created their only real chance of the half in the 16th minute as a right wing cross from Ridiger Gilbert was met by William Twala, but his eight-yard effort was headed narrowly over the target.
In the 37th minute some sloppy defending afforded Aces another chance, but Esau Mtsweni fired over from just inside the 18-yard box as the teams entered the half time break all square.
The second 45 continued in the same vein as both sides continued to squander possession in the final third of the field with wasted passes or poor attempts on goal.
Still, Aces did create the better of the chances and deserved to win the match.
In the 58th minute a great run by Mosikidi saw him beat a couple of defenders before he let loose with a powerful shot from just outside the box, but he saw his attempt sail inches over the bar.
In the 66th minute, second half substitute Houston Hills created one of the best chances of the match as he worked his way into the right side of the of the box and to the by-line before cutting the ball back for an unmarked Mohou Motaung, but he fired over from 14-yards out under no pressure.
With two minutes to play we finally saw the deadlock broken as second half substitute Dennis Masina scored within seconds of coming on as he latched onto a deep free-kick into the box, controlled well and slipped the ball under the sprawling keeper from a couple yards out, 1-0.
The win sees Aces go to the top of the mini-league play-offs with three points while Santos are second with one point and Chippa at the bottom with one point after two games.
