Moroka Swallows striker, Katlego Mashego, believes he is in a better state to represent the country now, compared to his previous Bafana Bafana call-ups.
Mashego, who turned 31 last Saturday, is one of four strikers to have been included in coach Gordon Igesund’s South Africa squad that will play Lesotho in an international friendly, before taking on Central African Republic and Ethiopia in the respective 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“Now I don’t have anything to prove to anyone as the call-up is a reward for a very good season that I had with Swallows. Obviously I’m very happy to be back in the team as everyone wants to play for the national team,” said an excited Mashego.
The Dube Birds forward ended the 2012/13 Absa Premiership campaign as the top goal scorer, having tallied 13 goals.
Asked if he was feeling any pressure, following Bafana’s well-documented frailties when it comes to hitting the back of the net, Mashego told the Siya crew, “I’m under no pressure at all, in fact I’m too old to even talk about it (pressure). I have been in this game for far too long and, like I said, I have nothing to prove to anyone.”
