It was recently reported that the Amakhosi were keen to land the 26-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns forward, despite the fact that they missed out on signing him just 18 months ago.
However, Marques says that he’s heard nothing about losing the forward, who is currently on loan with the Dube Birds, though he admits that there’s nothing he can do to stop him leaving should ‘Downs and Chiefs agree terms.
Yet Swallows’ coach does have a plan in mind should he lose Manqele, with him already eyeing a couple of targets to bolster his frontline.
Speaking to the Siya crew he said, “I don’t know anything about Edward going anywhere, but if he does then there’s nothing we can do. I’ve already got a plan in place for when he leaves at the end of the season, so if he goes now then we’ll have to look at bringing those plans forward.
“We’re just waiting for Sundowns to inform us whether or not Manqele would be leaving us and if they do confirm, then we’ll make a move for our target. It would be a blow if he moves, but there is nothing we can do, Sundowns have the power to decide where he goes."
It remains to be seen whether Chiefs and Sundowns can come to an agreement over Manqele, although it is unclear if there is a clause in his current loan move that allows him to cut the loan short and sign for another club.
