Generous Duo! Mayambela & Patosi Come To Rescue

The temporary return of Ayanda Patosi from overseas as a result of the disturbances caused by the Coronavirus in sports worldwide has turned into a blessing in disguise for the needy in his community of Khayelitsha outside Cape Town.

Together with another Khayelitsha-born player in Mark Mayambela, and through the Mayambela Foundation, the football stars donated groceries to the less fortunate at Site B in Khayelitsha earlier today (Friday).

Among the recipients of the groceries was an 82 granny and her family, and she was among the 10 families from the densely-populated informal settlement, who were recipients of the generous gesture from the former Cape Town City duo.

“We were in Site B and it was a gesture out of love and from the bottom of our hearts. He (Mayambela) told me what they (Mayambela Foundation) were planning on doing and I was interested and got involved. We contributed some money and we bought groceries for the people in need. Some of the people there have been affected hugely by this Coronavirus and its disruptions and we were happy to help out. We also wanted encourage them and show them that we understand the situation they are in,” said Patosi.

“Mark and I asked from the community to assist us with identifying the 10 families who were the neediest and we donated to them. We were happy to be of assistance as some people were disabled and some were living under very difficult conditions. We found a family of nine people living in a hall after their house (shack) burnt down in fire. They are living in that hall with many other people and are more than 30 in total. All we did was trying to help and we are happy we did,” the Bafana Bafana midfield ace added.

Deco, as Patosi is known in football circles, is currently back in Mzansi as his Persian Gulf Pro League club Foolad has also been affected by the deadly COVID-19 that has put everything on a standstill worldwide, while Professor, as Mayambela is fondly known, is currently unattached after parting ways with City in January.
