The talented 21-year-old was playing in a friendly game for his side on Friday when it happened, with the forward being rushed to the hospital where he was placed in an induced coma.

While there have been no updates on his situation, the Team of Choice’s operations manager, Quintin Jettoo, says that they’re hoping that he can make a recovery, urging people to keep the youngster in their thoughts.

He told the Siya crew, “We hope that the whole football fraternity keeps him their prayers at this very difficult and crucial time.

“Luyanda is still in (the) hospital, and we will only know more this week. We’re hoping for the best, and know that the thoughts of South African football fans are with him.”

The South African youth international has made two appearances for the senior team this season and is judged to be an exciting prospect for the future.

This shows how poor South African football is, Maritzburg United asked the game to be postponed and SAFA refused. How can emotional players compete and focus on the game whereas their minds are elsewhere. Yesterday Fiorentina Captain (Astori) passed away and all Sirea A matches were postponed. This is very poor because if it was Sundaowns, Chiefs or Pirates player that was striked by the lightning. PSLwould've postponed the match.. .
