Makgalwa Aims To Make An Impact At Maritzburg
Maritzburg United's Keletso Makgalwa Keen On Making An Impact
Maritzburg United winger Keletso Makgalwa wants to make the most of his time at the club while he is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Making the most of the chances, it has been made more appealing for the youngster after Keagan Buchanan was ruled out for most of the season after he snapped his ACL last month.
Makgalwa, instead of playing more out wide to cut in to create the spaces for himself to have more shots on target, is now set to take the mantle of club's flexibility to play across the midfield, which has been evident in the games since coach Fadlu Davids was appointed last season.
Makgalwa is rated highly by Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane, and has also made it known that he hopes this loan move will help him develop. Makgalwa was promoted by Sundowns at the beginning of last season. He is not taking his loan move very lightly and knows what it may lead to in the long run.
''Obviously, I'm hoping to get goals and assists and help the team,'' said Makgalwa, whose first goal in the PSL came at Maritzburg against Free State Stars in August.
Maritzburg have been struggling to find the back of the net this term and the player says he is hoping for a turnaround.
''It is something I'm hoping for and I'll work hard to reach that here at Maritzburg,'' he said in short.
Players like Makgalwa have the duty to make things work by unlocking teams and providing the chances for the team to win games. He said chances are created but their conversion has let the team down.
''I'd say defensively we are very good because we are not conceding that much, but I think we can work more on our final third, converting our chances because every game we create chances. So, I think it is something we need to work on it, converting the chances we create.''
Maritzburg, who are 13th on the log table with seven points from seven games, will resume their league action against Polokwane City on October 27 in away match after the Telkom Knockout.
But before that, they'll host Highlands Park at Harry Gwala Stadium in the Telkom Knockout Last-16 on the weekend of 20, 21 of this month.
