Two In, Two Out As Maritzburg Aim For Strong Finish
Maritzburg United welcome back two players tomorrow night as they take on Bidvest Wits in the Absa Premiership, but also have two others heading to the stands.
Both Bevan Fransman and Pogiso Sanoka were forced to sit out the 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic over the weekend due to their respective suspensions, with the Team of Choice managing to get the job done thanks to a brace from Andrea Fileccia.
Now, while Fransman and Sanoka return, Fadlu Davids will have to make a plan to deal with the absence of Deolin Mekoa and Fortune Makaringe, both of whom are suspended for the clash with the Clever Boys.
Mekoa picked up his eighth yellow of the campaign in the victory over Celtic, while Makaringe was shown his fourth.
The club are flying high in the Absa Premiership and into the Nedbank Cup semifinals, but their head coach is not resting on his laurels, and knows that it will be a tough encounter with the reigning champions on Tuesday.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Davids said, We have to refocus for the league, important game against Wits on Tuesday, and then Cape Town City on Saturday… We must not forgot we are facing the champions. They are still the champions, their form in the recent period has possibly been the best in the league. We’re facing them in league-winning form, so really, a tough game ahead.
“As I told the players, we’ve been getting praise, but we have to set the next goal, go to the next step, not just be happy with where we are. But of course it’s great that we are in the hat for the semis, anything can happen in football.”
Wits host Maritzburg at Bidvest Stadium at 19h30.
