Done Deal: Maritzburg Coach Has Deal Confirmed
Following the club’s heroics in surviving relegation from the Absa Premiership last season, Eric Tinkler’s has landed himself a new deal with Maritzburg United.
The club looked to be down and out when the former Bafana Bafana star took over from Muhsin Ertugral, however after climbing off the bottom of the table and into the play-offs on the final day, the Team of Choice completed the ‘Great Escape’ with a 100% record in their games against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Royal Eagles.
It was previously reported by the Siya crew that Maritzburg and Tinkler were close to sorting out a new contract after their survival despite rumours of interest from elsewhere, and it has now been confirmed that he has committed his future to the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit.
Vasili Barbis, the coach’s representative, confirmed to the crew that Tinkler has penned a two-year deal with Maritzburg, securing his place there until the end of the 2020/21 season.
The club, meanwhile, are in the process of finalising matters with their players in terms of incomings and outgoings ahead of the new campaign, with management eager to avoid another season battling at the wrong end of the Absa Premiership table.
