Debuts, Injuries & More As Maritzburg Target Wits

Maritzburg United’s Fadlu Davids has both bad news and good news going into this weekend’s clash with Bidvest Wits, and there could be a debut on the cards for a Mamelodi Sundowns man.
The Team of Choice have had a nightmare start to the 2018/19 season - they haven't won a game yet - but they will be eager to bring their winless streak to an end when they welcome the Clever Boys to Harry Gwala Stadium tomorrow night.
Davids has been impressed with his team over the international break, despite their poor form, and seems hopeful that things will turn around for them soon.
He told the club’s official website, “We’ve had a fantastic four-week period where we have been able to work with the new players, putting our principles in, in terms of attack, in terms of defence.
“Yannick Zakri is now in his fifth week of training, he should be ready. The competition between him and Andrea Fileccia, which one to start, is definitely a question. They have to fight for their place, see who wants the number nine jersey.
“I’m really excited, not only for the new players who have come in, but also the younger players putting up their hands, we have already given two PSL debuts so far this season, and there are three Maritzburg boys we have just signed.
“This is the exciting part about Maritzburg United, the younger guys really pushing for a place. We’re not afraid to give them a chance, to throw them in, because if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.”
Meanwhile, with regards to selection, the club website said, "Siphesihle Ndlovu is suspended, Yazid Atouba (tight muscle) is likely to be out, while Deolin Mekoa (knee concern) will have a late fitness test. Fortune Makaringe, Brian Onyango and Nazeer Allie are available for selection."
Maritzburg host the Clever Boys tomorrow night at 18h00 at Harry Gwala Stadium.
