Maritzburg Gear Up – Derby Beckons
Maritzburg United face Golden Arrows today in the quarterfinals of the 2018 KZN Premiers Cup, with plenty of their new faces set to get a run out at Princess Magogo Stadium.
The Team of Choice have signed Keagan Buchanan, Nazeer Aliie, Denwin Farmer, Sizwe Muthwa and Tholang Masegela as they prepare themselves for the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season, and this weekend will be one of the last chances for Fadlu Davids to experiment before the league gets underway.
With Maritzburg going into the friendly tournament with the likes of Arrows, AmaZulu, Royal Eagles, Uthongathi FC, Real Kings and Richards Bay, they will be eager to finish of their preseason on a high note.
Davids, who had a stellar campaign in 2017/18, told the club’s official website, "We are very privileged to be part of this tournament. The tournament makes the province stronger and makes the teams participating stronger.
"You normally schedule a friendly one week before to get that game rhythm going. But of course playing Arrows might change the thinking a little bit, but I’m sure we will put our strongest team out."
Meanwhile, club captain, Siyanda Xulu, says that he’s up for the fight, telling maritzburgunited.co.za, “It’s a derby, that says it all and you don't need to elaborate more. We know it’s going to be a fight, it’s all about the pride of the province. Golden Arrows has been doing well, we have done well, so it’s not going to be only about who is the best in the province, but who wants to proceed to the semi-final and the final.”
