Maritzburg United have signalled their intentions to keep midfielder Michael Morton at the club by exercising the one year option on his contract.
The 24-year-old has done well for the Team of Choice this season, playing a pivotal role in helping them achieve their highest ever PSL points tally.
Morton’s contract in Pietermaritzburg was due to come to an end in June, however the Siya crew have been reliably informed that his deal has been extended by a year, meaning that any team wishing to sign him will no longer be able to get him on a free transfer.
There have been indications that a number of clubs have been tracking the combative midfielder, although he is thought to be a favourite of head coach Ernst Middendorp, who is eager to keep him at Maritzburg for the new season.
Morton has missed just three league games for his side this season, two of which were due to suspension.
