Maritzburg United will not be adding former Wits defender Derrick Spencer to their ranks, after deciding against offering him a deal.
The 31-year-old had been training with The Team of Choice since the beginning of the month and even turned out for Ernst Middendorp’s men in a preaseason friendly, however they chose not to rush into a decision as to whether to sign him or not.
Now it has been confirmed to the Siya crew that the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit won’t be offering the defender a contract with the club, having already landed former Orlando Pirates man, Robyn Johannes.
The news caps off a difficult time for Spencer who failed to make a single appearance for the Clever Boys last season before being deemed surplus to requirements and subsequently released by the club at the end of June.
Spencer will now begin his search for a new club as he attempts to get his career back on track.
