Maritzburg United are undecided as yet whether they will offer Derrick Spencer a contract at the club. The player has been on trial for the Team of Choice and recently featured in a friendly match against a side from Lesotho.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after being released by Wits at the end of June. Spencer is well known to local soccer fans after spending the earlier part of his career with both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Soccer-Laduma contacted Maritzburg's commercial manager, Younus Kadodia, to get an update on the player. He said, “The chairman (Farouk Kadodia) and the coach (Ernst Middendorp) will meet later this week to make their final assessment on Derrick. They will likely decide on Friday (12 July). We play Bloemfontein Celtic in a friendly on Saturday and we should know before then.”
