Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Mario Booysen, has admitted that the departure of Alje Schut left a big gap at Downs.
Schut, who captained the Brazilians for the last two seasons, decided to return to Holland once his contract came to an end at the end of last season.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele has taken over the armband, while coach Pitso Mosimane has the likes of Booysen, Thabo Nthethe, Mphahlele, Wayne Arendse and Soumahoro Bangaly as options to fill the void at centre back.
Booysen has indicated that Downs will cope with the loss of Schut, nonetheless his departure has left a hole in the heart of Sundowns defence and the Dutchman’s presence will be missed.
“It is a well-known thing that Alje played a very important role in the team, but I won’t say we miss him,” Booysen told Soccer Laduma
“We have enough quality in the team to not start complaining about losing one player. Yes, Alje left a big gap at the back, but we have to move on. Sundowns is not a one-man team.
“We will continue to give everything we can to achieve positive results for the team and the fans,” he added.
Do you think that Downs have adequately filled the gap left by Schut or do they need to find a replacement in January?
