Kaizer Chiefs have lost out in two of the three domestic cups on offer this season, having failed to lift both the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout.
The Soweto giants now have the opportunity to clinch the Nedbank Cup, with Stuart Baxter’s side taking on Wits in the round of Last 32. Chiefs will be hosted by The Students, the team that knocked them out of the TKO last year. However, they are confident of advancing to the next round this time round, at the expense of the Braamfontein-based side.
Amakhosi communications manager, Vina Maphosa, said that there will not be a repeat of the TKO result. The Chiefs man said that they expect to go all the way, lifting the trophy that has eluded Chiefs since its inception in 2008.
He told the Siya crew that the team wants to win the Nedbank Cup this year.
“This cup has always eluded us so this time around we have to win it. We have to beat Wits whether they are playing at home or not. They won't beat us again. They won't repeat it.
“We have played them in the cup and league and now we know them better. The players are well prepared for all the games and they want to win all of them,” Maphosa concluded.
