Mngqithi: The Loss Against Chiefs Is Still Painful For Me

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi was not entirely satisfied with their unbeaten away record and says the loss to Kaizer Chiefs is still painful.

Sundowns will end the season unbeaten on the road after beating Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 in the penultimate round of the DStv Premiership, courtesy of a goal in either half by Peter Shalulile.

"That's a good record [unbeaten away from home] but it could have been better. I think we could have done better even at home, there are still many draws that I'm not comfortable with and I'm not happy to be honest," the Brazilians coach told SuperSport after the game.

"I think we could've done better in many matches that we ended drawing and at times when you're coming from a lead to draw a match is never really good, I remember a draw against Black Leopards, was a very bad draw for me.

"The loss against Chiefs is still painful for me up until now but I think the boys have done well we must give them credit."

Mngqithi was asked if he is going to play the fringe players in their last game of the season where they will be handed the trophy.

"I want to win the match, that's the most important thing, for us inasmuch as we want to play everyone, there are not too many who have not played now, to be honest. I think it's only [goalkeeper] Jody February who has not played this season but the rest of the guys have played," he said.

"We still have to chase our own benchmark for next season because we have to build on what we got last season and see how far we've gone this season so next season we can build on that.

"But it will be nice to see everybody playing but we will not force it, it's also nice to see players who have played regularly being the ones that raise the trophy, so we will have to really balance that and see what we can get out of it but I'm still very happy with the group, the coaches have done exceptionally well."

Here are eight players who could leave Mamelodi Sundowns:
