Despite spending about 80 percent of their Absa Premiership match against Orlando Pirates defending, Ajax CapeTown’s Mario Booysen insists that was their game plan and it worked.
With only three shots on goal the Urban Warriors found the back of the net three times to beat Pirates 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Booysen spent most of the night putting in important tackles to stop the Buccaneers attack in its stride and he was awarded the Man of the Match award for his efforts.
“It was a tough game for us, but our game plan worked for us. We played on the break tonight,” Booysen told SuperSport after the game.
“I have to give credit to the boys because we stuck to the game plan and we worked as a team.
“I am getting this award (Man of the Match), but I dedicate it to the team.
“We needed the three points because of the situation we are in (at the wrong end of the table in 15th place).
“Every point is going to count.
“We all took responsibility tonight against Pirates and our game plan at the end of the day worked.
“We defended a lot, but that was our game plan because we knew Pirates are a team who like to attack and play the ball.
“We knew if we just waited we would get them on the counter.”
