Manchester City’s superstars are in good spirits as they tour South Africa ahead of their Nelson Mandela Football Invitational matches, against SuperSport United and AmaZulu.
City face SuperSport on Sunday and then take on AmaZulu on Thursday. The tour forms part of the billionaire-club’s preparations for the new English season.
The tour is being followed closely by the Manchester City website, who are following and interacting with the squad during their travels in Mzansi. England international defenders, Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott, are maintaining a daily video diary of their SA trip, on the City website.
Speaking in the tour diary, Lescott said, “We’re just collecting some footage to showcase what we’re doing in South Africa. We arrived to an entertaining welcome – some dancers entertained us at the airport.” The players later joked between themselves about who was the better player at Fifa – a popular video game.
The players are also tweeting actively about the excitement they’re feeling about the tour.
Just before arriving, striker Edin Dzeko tweeted, “Can't wait to set foot on South African soil!”
City’s coverage of the trip is also expected to include behind the scenes footage of their games against SuperSport and AmaZulu. The Sky Blues take on Matsatsantsa at 15:00 on Sunday at Loftus Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 3 from 14:30.
