Mushekwi was linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig outfit, Kasimpasa, in the final week of the transfer window and negations between the clubs, player and his agent were understood to be at an advanced stage.
The club are understood to have tabled an offer of around R7 million for the player but could not finalise the deal before the close of the transfer window.
The latest news reaching the Siya desk has indicated that the deal with Kasimpasa was held back as the Chloorkop-based outfit were hoping to include Mushekwi as part of a swap deal for Bidvest Wits forward, Sibusiso Vilakazi.
The deal however failed to materialise and Mushekwi was left with too little time to finalise a move elsewhere.
With only a year left on his current contract at Downs and not expected to feature much in Pitso Mosimane’s plans, Mushekwi will be able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere during the January transfer window.
