Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that several players are currently nursing knocks and strains after returning to club duty.
The likes of Denis Onyango and Hlompho Kekana have made their way back to the Chloorkop-based club after serving on duty for their respective national teams.
However, Sundowns have confirmed that upon arrival, the club’s medical team had to assess and deal with several minor injuries.
As confirmed by the club, the likes of Onyango, Kekana and Themba Zwane are all being assessed after picking up knocks.
“The international break left Mamelodi Sundowns with a number of casualties, including captain Hlompho Kekana and Uganda’s No. 1, Dennis Onyango. Kekana will be assessed on Friday for the contusion he has. Luckily there was no swelling and the skipper was rested on Thursday,” Sundowns revealed on their official website.
“Onyango was also rested upon his return from national team duty in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The goalkeeper had tenderness in his abductor. Themba Zwane has a similar injury after featuring for Bafana Bafana in the 1-1 draw with Nigeria. He managed to complete a full training session on Thursday. Tiyani Mabunda was rested for that session due to a strain on his knee. He will also be assessed on Friday,” the club added.
Sundowns also confirmed other injuries to their first team players:
Ricardo Nascimento: A strain on his left hip reflectors
Oupa Manyisa: Knee injury
Anele Ngcongca: Achilles tendon injury
Thapelo Morena: Calf tightness
Jeremy Brockie: A laceration on his big toe.
