Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that they have extended the stay of one of their key players.
Denis Onyango, who made CAF’s Best XI for 2018, has committed his future to Sundowns, with the Brazilians confirming that the player has put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.
“Mamelodi Sundowns and Denis Onyango agreed on a contract extension of four and a half years. The Ugandan goalkeeper is currently the best goalkeeper in Africa having been named in the Confederation of African Football’s Best XI,” the club revealed on their official website.
Onyango joined the Brazilians from Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2011, where he was subsequently sent out on loan to Bidvest Wits to get in the needed game-time.
However, upon his return to Sundowns in 2014, Onyango managed to seal a place in the starting line-up under the mentorship of Head Coach Pitso Mosimane.
Onyango then went on to lift several trophies with Sundowns, adding the likes of the Absa Premiership league title, CAF Champions League trophy and the CAF Super Cup to his CV.
Now, it looks set that the 33-year-old could be retiring with the Brazilians after his stay was extended for another four and a half years.
