Pitso Speaks On League Title, Nedbank And Champions League
Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Pitso Mosimane Has Spoken Of The Challenges Of Competing In Three Tournaments
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane spoke on the challenges his side will face as they prepare for their marathon of competing in three different competitions.
The Brazilians are currently leading the race at the top of the Absa Premiership league standings, while also making their run in the Nedbank Cup competition.
However, Masandawana will soon be faced with a flood of fixtures in the coming weeks, as they begin their campaign in the CAF Champions League.
“First, we are at the same space as we were last year, where we have three tournaments in seven days, (it’s the time) where you need numbers in terms of personnel, players, enough to fight the battle. It is where your focus is a little bit split in terms of the league and mid-week is the Nedbank and then you have the Champions League,” Mosimane told the media.
“The Champions League (has its own), in terms of travelling into Africa and that’s the problem and how do you prioritise? How do you motivate the players? How do you play? How do you inspire the team for all three tournaments in seven days? Which one is more important?
“Because at this point in time, the league is important, you cant let it go, same as the Nedbank, it is one chance you’re out, Champions League is another story. It is huge it is not only for us, it is for the country and it means a lot. Champions League has changed our lives. So, now how do you tell the players what is important and what is key?” he added.
The Brazilians will welcome Free State Stars to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium this evening, February 21, in a top-four crunch clash.
