Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach, Manqoba Mngqithi has explained his confusion regarding the sending off of Head Coach Pitso Mosimane and whether he thinks it was a right call by the officials.
Sundowns claimed a 1-0 win over Cape Town City on Friday, February 02, a match filled with drama from both sides.
Sundowns’ head coach, Mosimane was sent off to the stands during the first half of the encounter after the head coach debated a decision which went in favour of City, with the assistant coach, Mngqithi set to stand in charge in the technical area.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, Mngqithi believes that there was no reason for his head coach to be sent off, as Mosimane put in a logical complaint after he believed that his player was fouled.
“No, there was no reason, it is a first for me where your player is fouled and you are just complaining about your player being fouled, there is no reason for you to swear or anything, you are just putting in a logical complaint to say, how can you say the foul is for the opponents when in essence it is a foul on our player and immediately I see the coach being given marching orders,” Mngqithi told the media.
“Unfortunately I was very close, I never heard any insulting words, I am not lying, there is no reason for me to lie. Initially, I thought that they were saying to step back, then when I saw him going out I even asked the goalkeeper coach what has happened because it was a logical complaint and I would be very happy if the referee can also come to the mic
like this when he has seen the match and realised his mistake and say – I am sorry,” he added.
