He Retired… But He’s Back! – Niang Makes Shock PSL Return

He announced his retirement just 29 days ago, but Mame Niang is back in the Premier Soccer League having signed a short-term deal this week.
Niang, who turned 34 earlier this year, has now penned a one-year deal with the University of Pretoria in the National First Division, with head coach, Evangelos Vellios, seeing him as a target man to help them in their promotion push.
Tuks have drawn their opening two NFD games of the 2018/19 campaign, and Niang has confirmed that Vellios has brought him on board – calling him out of retirement – in order to assist them up front.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man told the Siya crew, “Look, I got a call from an old friend who was asking me to come and help at Tuks, so I just said yes. I’m actually excited!
“The coach said that they needed a target man, and a previous target wasn't available. Someone told him that I’d just retired, so he asked for management to give me a call.”
