The SuperSport United technical team has been dealt a huge blow with news that George Maluleka is set to miss the start of the second half of the season.
The former Ajax Cape Town midfielder tore his knee ligaments after a collision with an opponent during a recent club friendly for Matsatsantsa, and has subsequently been ruled out of action for up to eight weeks.
Maluleka has proven to be one of the best signings for the side this season, with the Tembisa-born player establishing himself as a key figure in Gavin Hunt’s squad.
The former Under-23 international confirmed with Soccer-Laduma that he has been ruled out for a lengthy period.
“I’m injured. I picked the injury in a friendly we played against a team from Botswana. One of their guys made contact with me and I got hurt. But it’s not that bad because I can walk without a problem. They said it might take six to eight weeks to heal,” said Maluleka.
SuperSport commence with their league action with an away trip to Orlando Pirates on February 13.
