Paez Brace Fires Chiefs Into Maize Cup Final

Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the Maize Cup Final after defeating Township Rollers 2-0 thanks to a brace from Gustavo Paez.
Steve Komphela's charges settled early on in the encounter, with George Maluleka and Hendrcik Ekstein dictating the tempo.
Chiefs eventually broke the deadlock in the 17th minute as Bernard Parker unselfishly teed up Gustavo Paez, who calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
Rollers, meanwhile, started seeing a bit more of the ball after the 30 minute-mark but they were let down by their decision-making in the final third. Althougj, chances were hard to come by for both clubs in the remaining stages of the opening stanza.
Chiefs continued to dictate play upon resumption in the second half, but they were finding it tough to carve out chances in the final third.
After a quiet spell in the second half, Komphela opted for his first change after 70 minutes as Kgotso Malope replaced Bhongolwethu Jayiya, who had a quiet debut for the AmaKhosi.
Rollers, meanwhile, upped the tempo for the final 20 minutes as they pushed for an equalsier although the Chiefs defence stood firm.
Chiefs were then awarded a penalty in the 80th minute when Tsepo Masilela was brought down. Paez stepped up and scored from the spot, 2-0.
Edmore Chirambadare was introduce for Bernard Parker in the closing stages, as Chiefs saw out the remaining stages to claim the win.
The AmaKhosi will now face Free State Stars in the final at 16h00.
