After netting South Africa’s first goal to restore parity at 1-1 in Bafana Bafana’a 2-2 draw against Morocco on Sunday, May Mahlangu limped off the field with what seemed to be a muscle strain.
Despite the initial concerns on the extent of the midfielder’s injury, he told the Siya crew that the injury is not serious and that he is expected to be available for the quarterfinal clash. The Sweden-based player said that he pulled his calf muscle, which the team doctor dealt with immediately.
Mahlangu expressed his delight after scoring at the Moses Mabhida Stadium as he opened his goal scoring account at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
“First and foremost I have to say it was great honour for me to score at such an important stage in such an important tournament. I have to thank the coach, the technical team and my teammates for the support which has made me play like this.
“As for the injury, it is nothing serious. I am fine, it was just a small pull on the calf, but am fine. With the rest on Monday, I will be okay. There is nothing to worry about,” Mahlangu expressed.
