Bafana Bafana midfielder, May Mahlangu, who recently spent a couple of days with the national team, could be ready to play again in around five to six weeks.
The 24-year-old midfield engine has been on the sidelines since July 2013 when he succumbed to an achilles injury, and has since seen his contract with Swedish side, Helsingborgs IF, come to an end.
Once Mahlangu’s deal with Di Roe came to an end he returned to South Africa, and as previously reported by the Siya crew, spent some time with Igesund and the national team.
Mahlangu’s business manager, Rob Moore, confirmed that Mahlangu did join up with Bafana, but explained that it was only a short-term thing.
Moore told the Siya crew, “May was undergoing some rehabilitation in Cape Town and Gordon very kindly said that he could come and do some work with Bafana’s medical team. However, it was just for a couple of days and now he’s gone back home to Secunda.
“He’s now continuing his rehab and it would appear that he’ll aim to be back fit again in the next six to seven weeks. According to the reports that we’ve received that’s when he could be playing again. He’s making very good progress and everything is looking fine.”
Mahlangu is believed to be a target for Kaizer Chiefs, whose head coach, Stuart Baxter, has already confirmed that he has spoken to the midfielder about a short-term deal, although it remains to be seen whether the player would be welcome a return to Mzansi or not.
