Former Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder Jacob Machaka, who played competitively at the highest level until he turned 40, is making plans to give back to his community.
Affectionately known as ‘Dukes’, Machaka quit the game in 2011 after a stint with Bay United. After that he played an assistant coaching role to David Bright and later Vladislav Heric.
He was recently at Polokwane City, coaching in the club’s development structures, but has now decided to do something of more benefit to his community.
“Yes, I’m still here in Polokwane and I’m busy trying to set up a sports academy, more like an NGO. I’m not in a rush and hope to have it up and running by January. This will be a good start for kids who want to reach the top.
“It was the same with us when we were growing up. There are people who helped us to reach the top and we need to return the favour with the younger generation,” he said.
