Collins Mbesuma scored a crucial goal as Maccabi FC won promotion from the ABC Motsepe League to the National First Division.

Maccabi, who are under the tutelage of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi as their head coach, qualified for the play-offs as Gauteng ABC Motsepe League champions.

Tsotetsi’s team beat Limpopo-based Dolphins FC 3-1 at the Oscar Mpetha Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Having come on as a second half substitute with the team level at 1-1, Mbesuma scored one of the two goals that led to the Gauteng club qualifying for the NFD.

Maccabi will take on Mpumalanga’s TS Sporting in the final on Saturday to decide the ultimate champions of this year’s ABC Motsepe League.

TS Sporting beat Free State’s Mangaung United 5-4 on penalties in the other semi-final match on Thursday afternoon.
