Chippa United have completed the signing of Mbulelo ‘OJ’ Mabizela from Wits, after agreeing terms with his former club.
It had been thought that the former Bafana Bafana captain’s move to Cape Town had hit a dead end up until recently, with AmaZulu becoming favourites to sign the defender.
However, the Siya crew reported this weekend that talks between The Clever Boys and the Chilli Boys had reopened and that Mabizela, 32, was on his way to the Mother City to discuss terms.
Now the crew can confirm that the former Tottenham Hotspur man has signed an 18-month deal with the PSL new boys that includes a year-long option, should the club wish to exercise it later on.
Mabizela was recently told that he could leave Wits after being deemed surplus to requirements in Braamfontein, and he will be hoping that a move to Cape Town will be just what he needs to get his career back on track.
Originally talks between Chippa and Wits came to a stand still due to disputes over a transfer fee, however all the parties involved have now agreed to the terms.
