Luvuyo Memela has opened up on what he believes has been a concern for AmaZulu which has contributed to the team’s slow start to the season.
With the team preparing for the Durban derby against Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Wednesday, Usuthu are still in search of their first win of the season in the DStv Premiership.
Benni McCarthy’s side is 14th on the log after two draws and a loss in their opening three matches.
Memela believes that the confidence levels will be boosted after their 3-1 win over Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets FC in Lilongwe on the weekend in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
“Obviously, it won’t be an easy game. Playing outside of South Africa in CAF is not the same as playing in the DStv Premiership. It will be a tough game as you know that we haven’t won any game since the season started. We are going to go there and try and do the same thing we did when we played away,” said Memela, speaking through AmaZulu’s media department.
“As you know, we have been creating chances and it was just that we were not converting them. It was good that eventually when we played away, we managed to score three goals and I think that’s what we needed. I don’t think it’s a problem for us, scoring goals, it’s just that we needed luck because we were creating chances and we were missing goals. It happens sometimes in football where you have to dig deeper until you eventually get that goal. I think it was good for us to win with three goals away so that we can get the confidence of scoring goals again,” the ex-Orlando Pirates star added.
