Eymael Opens Up About Coach Of The Season Nomination Snub, Reveals Who Should Win
Luc Eymael Weighs In On Coach Of The Season Nominations
Luc Eymael says he is not surprised at missing out on the nominations for the PSL’s Coach of the Season award.
The nominees for the 2017/18 PSL Coach of the Season award were announced by the league earlier today (Monday). As confirmed by the PSL, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Pitso Mosimane, Milutin Sredojevic of Orlando Pirates and Fadlu Davids from Maritzburg United have all been nominated for the top award.
Eymael, who has received a lot of credit for guiding Ea Lla Koto to their 6th place finish on the PSL log this season, missed out on the nomination.
“I’m not surprised that my name is not there because I was never nominated not even once for the Coach of the Month. I think I deserved to be nominated at least once for the Coach of the Month. I’m not surprised and I don’t want to comment on that,” Eymael told the Siya crew.
Eymael guided the Bethlehem outfit to their emphatic 1-0 win in the Nedbank Cup final against Maritzburg United on Saturday to take the prestigious trophy to the Free State.
The 58-year-old coach explains why he believes that Downs’ Mosimane deserves the accolade of the Coach of the Season.
“All I want to say is that the coach who has won the league with his team has to be the Coach of the Year. That’s my thinking. Everywhere it’s like that. Maybe, there can be another trophy for the coach who has improved his team,” he said.
“I didn’t expect to be the Coach of the Year because I was never named Coach of the Month not even once. I have no problem, my work does the talking for me. Pitso deserves to be the Coach of the Year. He deserves it, he has won the league,” concluded the Belgian coach.
